SHINE IT DOWN Copyright 1985 Walter Salas-Humara Published 1985 University of France Music (BMI) I do the dishes, leave ‘em drying in the rack I'm trying to keep this place together So when the man that lives here comes back he will be pleased I sweep the floor, and when I leave I make sure I lock the door and the windows When you're your story you gotta bring out the best You try admitting the truth, but you gotta begin somewhere It goes right down with no bitter taste Your vision is my vision Don't ask so many questions and give me a task to fill Shine it up, shine it down I will never bear arms I haven't seen them sparks in years and years and years I feed the cats and I water the plants I do our laundry and hang it on the line and that's fine But I still got my mind on things that cost me More than I bargained for Repeat Chorus I won't give you anymore trouble Just call me by some other name There can be no absolutes When you turn left turn right I'm at the helm, I've got a mind of my own I am the style and grace that is the South But after all of these years I still prefer your choice You pay our bills, you feed our kids You built the roof that's over our heads The helping hand behind the shield The way it works, it always takes my breath away Repeat Chorus

4 WANTED SIGNS Copyright 1985 Walter Salas-Humara Published 1985 University of France Music (BMI) 4 wanted signs, dead or alive Oh yeah, oh yeah People will talk about what's important to them You stirred our feelings, you made your father cry 4 wanted signs, dead or alive Oh yeah, oh yeah So deeply touched, there’s no superstition in it We took so much to heart, it's natural to hope 4 wanted signs, dead or alive Oh yeah, oh yeah Your eyes blinked when mine did Your hands shook when mine did 4 wanted signs, dead or alive Oh yeah, oh yeah Your eyes blinked when mine did Your hands shook when mine did 4 wanted signs, dead or alive Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah

Susan 03:35
SUSAN Copyright 1985 Walter Salas-Humara
Published  1985 University of France Music (BMI) I went down to get a burrito, but the woman said she had no beef
I said that’s really too bad, but she offered me a drink instead
I didn’t know it then, but now I got me a lifelong friend She always says just what she feels, we go riding in her automobile Susan I’ve been thinking about you tonight Got a house on Fourth Avenue, fireplace, great neighbors too Got a pool right across the street, we go there when we get tired feet
Sleep on a double bed, blue sheets and a dog named Fred
An old pillow to rest my head, I lay thinking about my friend Susan I’ve been thinking about you tonight I’ve been breaking down for missing you
I hope out love will see us through
These circumstances that separate us now
I’m trying, I’m crying Susan I’ve been thinking about you tonight

Heart + Soul 04:40
HEART AND SOUL Copyright 1985 Walter Salas-Humara Published 1985 University of France Music (BMI) Heart and soul, one to another Heart and soul, turn it over Heart and soul, words in a postcard All I want need you Signs on both sides, try to weigh them fairly To do a better job, you have to wake up early Pull out the drawer and see, it's full of pictures Pictures of my family We went out dancing, it was a matter of movement The bass drum pounding was shaking the pavement But the tambourine was so disconnected Aaaah You're out there running around Running around Running around Heart and soul, one to another Heart and soul, turn it over Heart and soul, words in a postcard All I want need you Down at the warehouse I'm working on Sunday I'm telling my kids they'll have to stand on their own two feet I'm hoping they'll learn how to play the offbeat

about

In November of 1985 a tiny New York label, Record Collect, whose mantra was "Compren Discos Independientes", released the debut album from a "band" called The Silos. It consisted of an eclectic array of songs performed by fourteen musicians in various configurations under the guidance of singer-songwriter Walter Salas-Humara. Some cried, "Independent," some cried, "Alternative," some just cried. A new dawn had risen. Original Release: November 1985 Record Collect.

about

The Silos New York, New York

The Silos, the still-kicking band Walter Salas-Humara co-founded in New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene played Alt-Rock, Alt- Country, and Americana before any critics coined those terms. Salas-Humara’s narratives take on the weight of attentive, convincing poetry and wry wordplay. Each tune is marked by such humanity, which offers much refuge in a convulsive time. ... more
