THE ONLY LOVE Copyright 2003 Walter Salas-Humara Published 2003 Lagartija Music (BMI) You take a walk in the morning Try and write it all down Stare out at the ocean Ask what you can do without You will ask for a lot You will use your silver spoon You will work your ass off You will walk to the moon You can save up your money You can buy a new Volvo You can dress up funny You can dance the mambo Only love can send you to the sky Only love can make you wonder why Only love can shake you to your soul Only love can be The only love Let's meet at the library Then we won't have to talk We'll stare a hole in the reading room We'll tie a whole new knot We can learn from the old We can build a foundation Throw away what we been sold Be a brand new nation We don't have to slow down We got a deeper concentration Create a whole new sound Start a radio station Only love can send you to the sky Only love can make you wonder why Only love can shake you to your soul Only love can be The only love You can go to the cemetery Talk to the dead You can do what's necessary To get out of your head You feel hungry and lost But you won't sit still Your gonna take it to the boss Your gonna get your fill When you meet your maker If she won't understand Tell her to get over it And hold out your hand Only love can send you to the sky Only love can make you wonder why Only love can shake you to your soul Only love can be The only love

WHISTLED A SLOW WALTZ Copyright 2003 Walter Salas-Humara Published 2003 Lagartija Music (BMI) The man wears a wide grin Seems that smiling is all he does Waved goodbye to his children As they climbed into the schoolbus He whistled a slow waltz As he danced across the front yard And he thanked all his lucky stars He put his arms around his sweet wife He rubbed her wedding ring Said i'll love you for the rest of our lives Come whatever our lives may bring He whistled a slow waltz As he danced across the front yard And he thanked all his lucky stars One year when the money was bad And his boy asked him how they would live He said don't worry boy the family's what we have Sometimes you gotta take Other time's you gotta give Some year's you're flush But it's never as good as you think it will be Other year's you're broke But it's never as bad as you think it will be Money don't mean nothing at all Money don't mean nothing at all Money don't mean nothing at all He whistled a slow waltz As he danced across the front yard And he thanked all his lucky stars

READY FOR ANYTHING Copyright 2003 Walter Salas-Humara Published 2003 Lagartija Music (BMI) In four or five weeks The leaves will start to turn Let's be ready for anything There will be plenty of lessons we can learn Then we'll be ready for anything We don't need to lean on yesterday Or hold a candle for the past We can choose to while the time away This ole life was made to last Listen to records Figure out the chords We can be ready for anything On the beach Tonight's the night Then we'll be ready for anything We don't need to lean on yesterday Or hold a candle for the past We can choose to while the time away This ole life was made to last I'm pulling over for some gas And while we're here i'll have a look at the map We can find a place to dance We will cross the overpass to find A world of love and piece of mind Into the sunset Under the golden gate We are ready for anything Trim the sails It's never too late We are ready for anything We don't need to lean on yesterday Or hold a candle for the past We can choose to while the time away This ole life was made to last

WHEN THE TELEPHONE RINGS Copyright 2003 Paul Opperman and Walter Salas-Humara Published 2003 Lagartija Music (BMI) Chilling Autumn rains Make curtain skyscrapers More beautiful to see With the water dripping I wish somehow I could wash This perishing world Even in New York How I long for New York When the telephone rings A withered dream In the windy fields of memory Piercing like a knife Coming out to view The truth of flowers blooming In a concrete box Even in New York How I long for New York When the telephone rings The winter days go on But how far away This time called long ago Then the new year arrives In utter simplicity In a deep blue sky Even in New York How I long for New York When the telephone rings

about

Most great bands evolve and change, building up and tearing down their sound. The Silos have a history. This album is both a departure from the purely stripped down trio recordings of late and a return to the richly textured intricacies of albums such as "Cuba." We find an incredible cast of characters buoying the key components of Walter Salas-Humara, Drew Glackin and Konrad Meissner. The trio’s still working, and the support staff is back: Mary Rowell, Amy Allison, Richard Lloyd, Dave Boyle, Mary Lee Kortes, Dennis Cronin, Don Piper, and Paul Wallfisch. The sound of the album, then, is immediately familiar. These are the Silos you remember. You know it from the first song’s downbeat, and by the chorus you realize: a good friend has come home to visit. Original Release: September 2004 Dualtone Music Group.

about

The Silos New York, New York

The Silos, the still-kicking band Walter Salas-Humara co-founded in New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene played Alt-Rock, Alt- Country, and Americana before any critics coined those terms. Salas-Humara’s narratives take on the weight of attentive, convincing poetry and wry wordplay. Each tune is marked by such humanity, which offers much refuge in a convulsive time. ... more
