Cat looked at a king and here’s what he saw.
 
The true highway in the pale blue sky
The true horizon but it tells a lie
The false oasis isn’t near as you think
Camel don’t care, brought his own damn drink.
 
In the right palace but the clocks are all dead
The right king is going out of his head
All this can be yours, but for a heavy toll
Cat slapping at a goldfish in a golden bowl.
 
The temple at the lakeside is closed today
Priest on a bicycle with nothing to say
Lake water lapping at the temple door
Dog lapping the water ‘cause he knows what it’s for.
 
In the right palace at the chosen hour
Right king climbing to the highest tower
Stacking all the furniture in a kind of pyre
Cat don’t mind, he ain’t afraid of no fire.
 
Rope ladder hanging from a cave in the bluffs
Prisoner dangling from his rusty cuffs
Whispers his secret to a passing bird
Bird flies free, he can’t repeat what he heard.
 
In the right palace at the break of dawn
Right king dancing with his slippers on
Eyeballs almost bouncing out of his head

Cat looked at a king and went back to bed.
